MEET: CYBERNATION – new name, new genre, new single
If you’ve been invested in the Indian metal scene for the past few years, the name Diabolus Arcanium will be more than familiar to you. Formed in 2011, the symphonic black metal band has released two albums, Spellbound and Path of Ascension, and has gone through its share of ups and downs, from winning awards to losing and gaining members.
Now they’re back with a new name — Cybernation, which makes complete sense when you realize that they’re now leaning towards industrial rock. The band has three members: Vyas on vocals, Roshan on keyboards/synths and Bishwanth on drums/percussion.
With their single set to release tomorrow, we had a quick chat with Vyas about what’s to come.
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi! I’m Vyas, or rather known as “Hex” in the music scene. I sing and write lyrics for Cybernation and previously I played lead guitars and handled vocals when we were known as Diabolus Arcanium.
What influenced your shift from black metal to industrial rock?
Well, I was always more into “Rock” than “Metal” personally but that is not the reason we changed, every band sort of evolves till they find the sound they are looking for, I can say that we finally found the sound that we among the band share interests in.
How do you think your fans will react to the change?
Too early to comment on that, but I think the general audience will like it, so far there has been good responses to our snippets. fingers crossed
You’ve been in the scene for quite a long time. How would you say it has evolved (if at all), and what do you wish was different?
Yeah gotta say that the scene has evolved a bit, I see a lot of bands trying new things which were completely alien around 10 years ago, so it’s a good start!
What’s your typical writing process?
It is pretty straightforward, Roshan (Archon) does the melodies and arranges the synth part of the song, Bishwa then comes in and gets his beats going on. Once the basics are done we write guitar and bass lines and record it, finally comes the lyrics and then the vocals based on how the instrumental has shaped up.
What can we expect from the rest of the album?
You can expect a lot of cool grooves, the album has a dark sound too but its more on the positive side, Roshan has worked up amazing synth melodies for this single as we all the upcoming album, I would say that it’s a package of darkness + party + range of emotions with some heavy guitar riffs.
